i brought my computer to a repair shop and they ran a diagnostic . they said that my bios had been fried. i was just wondering how that can happen?

The chip is static sensitive; or it could be a bad power supply, or a power surge.



Always have a surge suppressor, in the power line. Get an Uninterruptable Power Supply, it has a surge suppressor built into it, and it allows you to save your work in case of a power failure.

My bios died not long ago when a bios update failed.



Don't think it's a very common thing to happen though.
