check the lg support site at http://gb.lgservice.com/gcsc/b2c/hpi/mai... you will find the drivers and firmware for all lg cdrw drives

however you should be able to just set the jumpers on the back of your cdrw drive and fit it in the p.c,windows will then install the nessecary drivers and formware by default,other drivers shoulnt be needed

another option would be to use a ''live update'' program which updates the drive at a bios level,its similar to a bios update but not as daunting,the lg live update can be found at http://gb.lgservice.com/gcsc/b2c/hpi/mai...

are you sure you need a driver? have you tried microsoft updates and then looked at what appears on the left hand column under hardware updates? just an idea.... works sometimes
google model No:GCE-84008 + L.G %26 see what results I just did and there are some discussions gin on in some of the forums. I would also look at the LG website and see if there are any drivers - but xp should just auto detect the drive. You may need to open the drive in decice manager %26 then th properties %26 tell it it update the drivers..
You could check the website. If it requires a driver than they should have a downloadable one. If not then simply inform LG about it.
CD Drives are usually plug and play. You shouldn't need a driver unless your PC is from 1990 or so.

If you still have your license key you can borrow another person's XP disc as you pay for the license rather than the disc.

You won't be able to do any repairing, or reinstallation without this disc. If you have the disc you can reformat or use the recovery console to repair it.

DSL uses the phone line. Technically it uses the outside two wires of the four in the phone jack. The inner two are used for phone calls.

While you might be able to physically move your modem, you would need to have the phone line active for the modem to work. Ma Bell might (and probably does) register the modem to a phone number. You could test this by taking your modem to a friend's house, hooking it to their phone line (assuming they don't have DSL) and seeing if it works. If it does, then call Bell and turn on the phone at your rental house. Often they have a low tier plan that costs $15. If the modem does not work, then forget calling bell unless you want to pay for an extra Internet line too.

I'm not a tech but if you have the correct software install it first then if its usb connection plug it in windows xp if thats what you have windows should help you do the rest. Also look at the contents of the software disk or on the manufactures web page and they should have installation procedures for the type of operating system you might have. If you can't find the web page try softpedia.com they have a lot of software and drivers for various models of equipment. If its a printer port install install the software then turn off the computer and hook up the cable to the printer port on the computer and the scanner will have another port for the printer to hook up to, then power up the computer and follow the installation setup program. Since your friend's computer is infected by viruses, then you should boot Wndows XP in Safe Mode. In this way, 32-bit programs are prohibited from execution, including the viruses. From there, try to see if you can scan for viruses using the installed antivirus program. Otherwise, you can try to see if you can disable the RPC service from within Safe Mode.

I bought a nice looking Desktop from Wal-Mart with a 17'' widescreen monitor. In less then 2 weeks the computer had all kids of problems.

Also, the monitor had a green line running vertically through the screen.

I got a warranty repair request in for the computer and screen and they give me the adress to send it to. Then I get a package back from them saying that they're returning the peripherals that they don't need to repair the computer. When I told them that they were suppose to repair the monitor also I was told that it has to be actualy sent to another adddress. I have to pay for the shipping myself!!

wsftp, from ipswitch is pretty good, been using it for years

also if you have a decent web development environment like dreamweaver that has a pretty good FTP sub system built in, which makes site updating a breeze. If you can get an older version of Dreamweaver I'd definatley reccomend it...... it does a lot of the mundane checking (comparing the published site with the local site and offerign to copy files as requested.
Personally I use Filezilla ( http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ ) which is free and posibly one of the best FTP clients out there.

my computer hardware (for a macbook) has crashed a lot (4x), so I got an external hardrive. But the crashing started before I got the hardrive. IS it still possible that there is a faulty file on my hardrive that I got after my computer was repaired? THere is some limewire music on there, but limewire has not been downloaded onto my computer since the second crash. How can I save my files, stop these crashes, but still determine what is causing this problem! (MAc store not helping...clearly)

computers usually have an internal speaker which is used for telling you errors that might arise when turning on your computer. Usually 1 beep means everything is working normal. More than 1 beep means something is missing or wrong (ie. no keyboard plugged in.)

If you are getting a beep while working on your computer, you might want to check your manual to see what it means. It could possibly be that your computer is getting kind of hot, in which case you should buy something to cool it down, such as a case fan. Also, you should have the options in BIOS to set if you want your speakers to beep or not, whether you have errors or not.

It is not because one of your drives is ntfs and the other ones are fat32.

I am interested in changing my career and people have been suggesting an online college would be the best route, but I don't know. Here's the lowdown: I dropped outta school when I was younger and dumber and didn't realize how stupid that was till it was too late. Now I want to save myself from a pointless life in flatwork(concrete). I have always been very good on computers and think that that is what I would like to do now. Only problem is I don't know where to start, or exactly what field I should look into. I am mostly skilled at repairing computers(glitches and such) and building, but can catch onto anyting computer related.

Can anyone give me advice on script errors on my pc?

Recently I have been having tons of script errors on my pc. On some web sites a box pops up saying ''there's been a script error on this page'', ''continue running scripts?, click yes or no.'' Other issues include trying to verify my Mcafee virus subscription. When I log in to my Mcafee account I get a screen that says Activex error with solutions on how to fix it. When I follow the instructions, it still doesn't work. Lastly I am having a problem with Macromedia Flash Player. When I try to play something that uses Flash player I am told I need to donwload/install it, but when I go to do that I am told it is already installed on my computer. I'll try to be as specific as possible. I have built and repaired computers for years, but this one I can't figure out. The computer was on, and when I woke up it was off. The power button does not light up when pressed. I opened the case. There is a green light on the power supply next to the fan. This light is on and when I press the power button it turns off. Holding the power button in for about five seconds seems to reset the power supply and I can do it again. I have unhooked everything so it's only powersupply and motherboard. There is memory and a chip. There are two fans inside that are powered from connections to the mother board. When the power button is pressed the fans turn around about one full turn then stop. There is a four prong yellow chord going from the power supply to the mother board that I'm not familiar with. Your power supply is toast! The four pin yellow cable from power supply to motherboard is the cpu,(processor), power! When the cpu power cable is un-hooked, the cooling fans have enough power to spin. When the cpu's,( which uses a lot of power), power cable is plugged back in, it drains the power supply, so that even with the tiny power usage of the system fan, and processor fan, they no longer spin. No big mystery! How did the power supply just go out, all at once? The capacitors in it are weak, and possibly some are dead. They just had enough electrolytic paste in them to keep them going, until you shut the computer down, this one last time. Have access to another power supply? Put it in, and test my theory! I am sure of this!

just bought a sony vaio CR 120 E and have fallen in love with it, it's all in one, looks are superb, and performance is excellent.

DELL is ofcourse good and sounds cheap from thier advertisements, but landing cost doesn't makes it much cheap, it DELL is okay, go for VOSTRO 1500.

technically writing a new bootloader won't delete information off of a partition except for the old bootloader, which is probably corrupt anyway if you're at that screen while repairing a partition. in reality, your pcitures and other stuff may be gone anyway if your FAT (file allocation table) is gone anyway. however, writing a new bootloader (damaging the pictures/other stuff or not damaging it) is worth it anyway because without it, your stuff is absolutely gone vs. having a chance of still existing. If you're scared, download a rescue cd off of the internet and see what it can do for you.

We recently had a severe thunderstorm in my area, with severe lightning and hail, etc. I believe it threw my modem out or fried it, either one, because I didn't have the telephone cord unplugged from my modem. I am on dial up internet, and I cannot connect using my PC, although the rest of my PC seems to be working fine. The best option is to install new Modem card instead of getting repaired, no matter it is installed in PCI socket or on board.
If you have a seperate phone modem then you can just switch out the PCI card. But if the modem is intergated into the motherboard then it would be far to much money to repair. I would be easier to buy another motherboard. Also you may want to see if your modem drivers are working, that would make the modem not work correctly.

I installed fresh copies of Windows more than 30 times!, but I have a small problem. I was installing it on a Computer but when I'm on the Delete Partition section it asks to format (Quick) of the normal etc.

When I try formatting it in any way, a message appears saying:

Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partition. This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation.

I tried this:

-Downloaded a Win 98 Boot to delete TOC

-Recovery Console - chkdsk /r

-Repaired the disc with the Win XP Pro OS CD

What else I can do if any of this works?

yes they can fix software problems, they get you to set up a remote connection so they can operated it work on it from their end. most problems can be fixed like that, I do it for people in here all the time when I am not busy, just by them tellin me the problem and the telling them what to do to fix it.

$45.00 an hour is a good price, that is what i charge in my shop when someone brings one in and I straighten it out for them.

I don't know that particular company, but if you type their name in google, you should find some feedback about them in message boards, especially if they are not very good or crooked. Hello! The sound on my computer has been acting up lately. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but I have found that if I apply pressure to the area near the headphone jack, the sound comes back. When I use headphones, I have to position the headphones in the jack just the right way for the sound to come out equally from both sides, and usually when I take my fingers away it goes back. I don't know anything about computers, so I am wondering what everything thinks the problem is? Might it be the sound card? If so, how do I repair it? Thank you very very much everybody! yea. either under warranty get your sound card or in this case, sound jack replaced. if your warranty is void, then you can get a pcmcia/card bus or usb type sound card.

Sounds like the connection has become loose on the motherboard and the only way to fix this is to take off the Keyboard and seeing what is going on but i would not recommend you do that.

Take it to a repairer and get them to take a look for you.
Its not the sound card. It can't be replaced on a laptop anyway since it is direct soldered onto the motherboard. The headphone jack has been jammed around, either loosening or breaking it from the motherboard. Either way, it's a $150 repair at least

My parents live in England and are over 70 and don't want to get into computers at their age. However it would be great if we could send pictures or mpegs or just messages to them from here in the US. I want to get them set up with an internet connection and computer....I know I can set up the computer and even repair it from here in the US using GoToMyPC or other remote program, so all I need to find out now is how much it will cost to set them up with an internet connection over there ...prefereably high speed. If it's a terminal where you can type things in on lines sort of like Command Prompt, try typing ''boot.'' Otherwise, insert your Windows XP cd, and I think it automatically boots off that and you can restore your OS.

Try a few things - As soon as you turn your machine on tap the F8 key every second or so - You should get Windows Advanced Startup Options - Try Safemode - if you get in do a system restore to a few days ago by clicking start run - type in msconfig and click OK - Hit Launch System Restore - follow the prompts..

If that doesnt work take of your side case a reseat your compnenets one at a time - RAM - any PCI cards - If that doesnt work - take one PCI card out one at a time - if you have more that one - Network card - modem...ect. See if you can find the PCI card that may be causing the problem.

If you can actually see the signal from the wireless router on the remote computer, you don't need a card. Your computer is talking to the router. You are not getting the Internet because your connection is not set up correctly.

The best way to fix this would be to download the appropriate Network Setup Assistant from the Linksys or Cisco site. Make sure you download a version that is compatible with the model of your router.

You will need an extra Ethernet cable and you will have to either move the remote computer to the Broadband Modem, or vise versa. Which ever is more practical.

You need to start out with the computer connected directly to the modem.

Run NetSet. It explains what you need to do prompt to prompt.

At program's end, you should be able connect via the Wi-Fi.

NetSet will also generate a remote setup client and a text file of your router settings. You will need these in future to repair the network and/or to add computers to the network. Of course, you can always use this method with a stubborn machine.

What kind of discs are compatible with the superdrive? Like what ones have worked for you?

I've been using Maxell, not sure if I've ever used them before because I usually use Sony but now the Maxell's aren't really working. I JUST burned a CD today using the same disc but when I tried again, it ejected the disc and refuses to use it. Plus, when I eject a disc it won't but it has no problems automatically ejecting discs it doesn't like.

Apple isn't helpful, I sent them an e-mail but all their suggestions I've already tried. Plus, I don't want to ship off my computer for repairs just yet which is why I'm putting off CALLING apple for suggestions. I live in an isolated town and shipping it off wouldn't do me any good financially and work-wise.

Some burners do have problems with some blank discs. If you have a friend that also has blank CDs/DVDs, try swapping a few blank discs and try. Try JVC, Sony, and any of the off brands. When you find a brand that works, use it. I had a CD burner that couldn't store on a blank disc that had a greenish tint. I ended up burning 50 frisbees from that stack.

SuperDrives should be compatible with most CDs and DVDs. I would suggest not buying Maxell disks anymore. I use Sony disks myself. I wish I could help, but I've never had a problem with my SuperDrive.

You might have several things going on, but it sounds like you need to reinstall your sound card. When your computer was ''repaired'', what did they do? Try right-clicking My Computer, either on your Desktop or in your Start menu, select properties, click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager, a 2nd window will pop-up with a list of all your installed hardware, if anything appears with either a question mark or exclamation point next to it, it likely needs to be reinstalled. You can try right-clicking the item and looking for the option to update the driver. Assuming these drivers are still on your machine, selecting the 'Search for' option should find and install them. Otherwise you will need to install them from the disk that shipped with your PC or soundcard.

That may fix the Yahoo jukebox issue as well, but it sounds like that needs to be reinstalled as well, if you restore your sound and still get the error I would download it again and reinstall it.

I have an HP Notebook thats been ''in repair'' since December 9th 2006. This computer has had the DVD drive replaced, 2 motherboards, new hard drive and a new heat sinc fan. Not to mention the damage that occured to it while it was away at their repair center! There is a no lemon policy which states that if its been repaired 4 times or more its supposed to be replaced! They are seriously dicking me around. Ive called the 1888 bestbuy number and I get the run around I call the store and I get the run around. There is a way to repair this problem without losing all your info, you will just lose installed software like antivirus or office suite but not your music documents and pictures. insert winxp cd and when it boots from cd you have option either to repair or setup windows now, select setup now and it will scan for previous versions of win xp when it does it will then give the option to repair select that and it should start the repair proccess. if this doesnt work try setting up windows only but when you install windows creat a 2nd partition and dont fromat the hdd. then on your 2nd windows install under my computer you should see 2 hdd's one is your old windows and the other is your new. you should be able to access pics from here and then transfer them. for more info johntech12@yahoo.com

This car was purchased brand new and has had a huge number of problems for which it has had to be taken back to the dealership for repairs. The current problems are that the driver's door cannot be opened at all and I am having to enter and exit through the passenger side door. Is this something I can fix myself? Is it a bad computer chip or something? It also seems to have a problem with overheating. The meter will go into the red, but the car doesn't seem to start steaming or smoking and hasn't actually stopped running because of this even though I try not to travel more than 30 minutes at a time for fear that the car will stop. The dealership has addressed this problem 3 times already. Can anyone help?

i own a repair shop,and you can probably fix the door part of it your self,but the rest of it needs to be done at the dealer,you need a different dealer the one your dealing with seems to not know what there doing on that car,as for the door the rod that opens the door have came unhooked from the latch or the handle,id say there off at the latch though,but you still have to get the door open to get to them,if i had the problems your having from that one i think i would trade it or get rid of it,usually KIA,s are real good cars,and this one sounds like its been a problem car for a while now,but try a different dealer,some one should be able to figure this one out,i know i could,but I'm not there good luck i hope this helps.

That door could have the child safety feature on it and that's why it won't open. My Ford Focus did the same thing and i just took my car key and put it in this little slit in the door and turned it to where it would open.

Yes there is. It is more complicated than it used to be.

First, click start. click help and support. up at the top in the search field type language and go. Here are those steps if it is all in chinese. By the way, you will need to bring up the Language Bar, so, I put that step first.
