I have a weird ip address?

After i repaired my computer due to a crash. I found out that my ip address is 10.0.0.6.subnet mask 255.0.0.0 and default gateway 10.0.0.3. Before i repair my computer, my ip address was 192.xx.x.xx.

i tried to change my ip address by typing inconfig /release but i cant still change it?

Can any1 expalin it and tell me if this is normal?

Ok I'm guessing your computer is on some sort of a network.

The IP of 10.x.x.x is a class A network, and is usually used by enormous networks as it can support up to 16 million computers lol.

As this is your personal network, and its not registered with InterNIC it really doesn't matter. So long as all the computers on your network have an IP of 10.x.x.x everything will continue to work fine.

If the first bit of the network address is between 1 and 126 (Class A), you may use any combination afterwards.

If the first bit is between 128 and 191 (Class B), the second bit MUST be identical for all computers.

If the first bit is between 192 and 223 (Class C), the second and third bit MUST be identical for all computers.

If you don't understand subnet masks, don't bother touching them. They're very confusing!

Pretty much, if your network is a class A the subnet mask by default is 255.0.0.0

Class B is 255.255.0.0
