my computer WinXP froze and when re booting went to F10 and then asked for repair and it re-installed the operating system and overwrote all files. Is there a way at all to reverse this, recover files form previous. Interesting in the process, there were no prompts saying that this would overwrite.

You could try a recovery tool, but sense you formatted, it would be rare if you recovered anythging.

this worked on my computer. go to: start; my computer; C:\; documetns and settings and if there are user accounts that have a .WINDOWS after it, your data will be on your file that you had b4 you reinstalled
I am not entirely sure but I am pretty sure that once you reinstall the base software all other data on a computer will be erased.
